The engine is hand-built by Mercedes tuning firm AMG and bears the signature of the engineer who assembled the engine. The engine is the same as used in the 57 S model and has a massive 738lb-ft of torque spread over 2000-4000rpm. This is more than enough to see the 62 S cover 0-62mph in 5.2 second and head on to a limited top speed of 155mph.
To cope with the power and underline the 62 S's credentials as a sports limo, the suspension has been stiffened and lowered, though Maybach is quick to point out that passenger comfort remains the car's main priority.
Other unique features for the 62 S include a redesigned front grille, different light clusters and 20" alloy wheels. On the inside, buyers can choose between piano black, anthracite poplar or carbon fibre trim finishes, while a new leather upholstery sets the 62 S apart from other models in the range.
The price of all this extra performance is £341,585, which is £41,615 more than the standard Maybach 62. The S version will be unveiled at the Beijing Autoshow next week and is available to order now in the UK.
